Escaped elk runs loose next to Wisconsin highway before capture

Authorities in Wisconsin said an elk that escaped from a farm went for a run along the highway before being safely recaptured.

The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office said the elk escaped from a Cochrane-area farm Wednesday and was seen running alongside Highway 35 and Prairie Moon Road, near Cochrane-Fountain City School.

Members of the public were warned to watch for the elk on local roads and urged not to attempt to approach the animal.

The sheriff’s office said in an update Thursday that the elk was safely recaptured and was not injured.
